Double Down – Adam Hodson Hopes to Ride Winning Ways from Back To The Streets Event for a Double-Up in Michigan, at Both Roadkill Nights and Sick Michigan Miles!
As part of a group of street car enthusiasts for Indiana called Team 260, Adam Hodson participated in several events, usually with a large crew. From drag and drive events, to no prep-style races, Adam did a lot of events in an 8-second Chevrolet Camaro, usually alongside his Indiana friends.
That crew came into play during the 2020 season of Horsepower Wars, which resulted in the acquisition of the Chevrolet S-10 pick-up. Adam recently guided that truck to the win in Small Tire at the Back To The Streets drag and drive, and now he’s preparing for back-to-back events in Michigan, including Roadkill Nights and Sick Michigan Miles.

But before the S-10 was his weapon of choice, Adam would enjoy participating in his single turbo ’73 Chevrolet Camaro, known as ‘Corporate.’ He did several drag and drive events, including Hot Rod Drag Week, where it clicked off a handful of 8-second passes and finished with an 8.85 and a top ten spot in the Super Street Small Block Power-Adder class.
“We had a solid 8-9 racers that went racing together, and spent a lot of time together,” said Adam. “Although things have changed a little now, we had a solid 5-6 years where we got to do a lot of fun things together.”
That team became a vital part of a big challenge in 2020 when Horsepower Wars announced their third season. “We were lucky enough to get a crew on it,” said Adam. With a budget of $10,000 ($7,000 of which was in Summit Racing Equipment money, and $3,000 in cash), four teams got the chance to build a car.
Teams were challenged to see who could tear apart a small block Chevrolet for the opportunity to pick first from four cars. Team 260, comprised of Adam Hodson, Nick Taylor, Mick Bodigon, Wesley Butler, Todd Gunner and Matt Donovan, got the job done first, and thus got the first pick of the vehicles.
The Chevrolet S-10 pick-up was picked because “we knew because of the truck’s bed, we could put weight wherever we wanted to,” Adam said. Although the S-10 came as a roller, it did include a full set of QA1 mod shocks.
To fill the engine bay, the team chose a 5.3-liter LS swap, stock 243 cylinder heads, a BTR camshaft swap, with a single 80-millimeter turbocharger providing boost from a unique spot, just behind the cab, but above the roofline.
“We wanted to put it in the bed,” said Adam. “We wanted to get it as much air as possible.” After Nick made a call to Jason at Tin Soldiers Race Cars, Nick came up with the turbo placement. The other teams scoffed at the idea, but Adam and Nick made it work.
The team from Indiana raced opposing teams at the end of the challenge, with Nick Taylor at the wheel, and came out victorious. As the winners, they got to keep the truck, and it saw action at the 2021 edition of Rocky Mountain Race Week 1.0, where Nick piloted it to a 5.55 average to finish second in the popular small tire Rowdy Radial class.
After that, Adam and Nick wasted no time getting the truck into several no-prep events, and Adam has even piloted it at Roadkill Nights. “As much as we enjoyed drag and drive, I wanted a new challenge,” he said.
But the drag and drive world would bring him back, with Adam recently winning the Small Tire class at the Back To The Streets. “Their format includes heads up racing every day, and the final day you’re in a bracket that races heads up until a winner happens.”
Now, the Chevrolet S-10 is getting prepped for a familiar event, as Adam will participate in Roadkill Nights on Woodward Avenue on Saturday, August 9th. But he’ll make the most of his trip to Michigan, as the ‘Gap Train’ S-10 will do Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil, starting the next day, August 10th.
“I hoping mentally our past experiences will help me focus,” said Adam. “Doing Hot Rod Drag Week as a group, someone always a problem. You just need to roll with it, don’t be in a hurry, and try to enjoy the week.”
