Aydan Bailey Leads Day Zero Testing on Sick Michigan Miles, as Competitors, Sick Ward and Sick Spit Show & Shine Gear Up for Seven Days of Drag and Drive Adventure in Michigan
After two years with three drag and drive events under the Sick The Magazine banner each year, 2025 marks the first time Sick The Mag expanded to a pair of ‘one-off’ events versus one each year in 2023 and 2024.
Based in Michigan, Tom Bailey and the Sick The Mag crew talked about putting together an event in our home state. They got together and came up with the details to arrive at Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil, August 10-17th, 2025.
Sunday, August 10th was Day Zero, which is normally tech and check-in, as well as a test session for competitors to have a chance to iron out any last-minute details on their rides before Monday, August 11th, when the laps would start to count towards their averages.
After a year-plus since its last drag and drive appearance, the ’57 Chevy wagon of Aydan Bailey made a pair of 5.30 passes on the eighth-mile distance to led Sunday testing. Aydan will have father Tom in the co-pilot seat for the event.
Multi-time Sick event participant Jon Moore had already participated in a few events this year, and rolled into Michigan Miles fresh from racing action at Saturday’s Roadkill Nights. The Ls-swapped, 4x4 stanced Crown Victoria opened with a 5.55 run, and then improved to a 5.39 at 134 mph on his second shot.
TJ Linebaugh and his turbo’d LS-swap ’78 Ford Fairmont station wagon has become a regular sight at many drag and drive events. A pair of runs returned a best of 5.43 at 128 mph for Linebaugh.
A recently revamped F-150 pick-up gave the father-son team of Jack and Tom Kuepper a chance to get together for Michigan Milers. After a bunch of upgrades between events for son Tom, he made a handful of runs at Darana Dragway, getting a best of 6.01 out of the ’94 model Ford truck.
Michigan Miles is the first of two drag and drive events this year where Sick The Mag welcomed motorcycles to the fun. The 2005 Suzuki of Benjamin Maxey made the quickest run of the day, a 7.19 at 112 mph, after improving over a period of four runs today.
Alex and Holly Rops joined us with their unique 2016 Chevy SS sedan for Sick 66 in fall of 2024, and they penciled in an appearance for Michigan Miles this year. After a first run resulted in a broken CV axle, Holly made the swap to a fresh one, and cranked out a 6.47 at 109 mph on her fourth and final run on Sunday.
Frank Webb just got his potent ’78 Ford Fairmont Futura back together in time for an early morning appearance at Michigan Miles. A first run of 5.46 gave Webb a good baseline, but his second shot sent him airborne when the tune up proved to be a little too spicy. No damage occurred, and Webb said he’d be ready for Day One.
Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil starts the first day of competition today, Monday August 11th at Darana Dragway. You can come join us for a week of fun and racing action, plus the Woodward Dream Cruise next Saturday, August 16th. CLICK HERE for more details!
