The Good Land – Day Two of Edelbrock Sick 66 at Bonne Terre Dragstrip Finds the Battle for Overall Champion Heating Up, A Stick Shift Record Set, and We Tally Up More Miles on Route 66!
After two days of Mother Nature giving us fits on Edelbrock Sick 66, Monday, September 28th dawned clear and sunny. The all-concrete racing surface at Bonne Terre Dragstrip was prepped and readied for the 175 competitors that survived Day One.
Lamar Swindoll Jr. came in the favorite based on previous performances, but as we’ve seen before, the street miles and the different tracks can shuffle the averages at any time, and Sick 66 was no exception.

Swindoll’s first pass found the nitrous-fed Chevrolet Nova kicking the tire loose not far off the starting line, and Swindoll coasted to a 7.069 at just 67 mph.
That opened the door to Dan Dinan, and the Monte Carlo driver delivered a new personal-best on the scoreboards with a 5.280 at 137 mph blast, lowering his average to a 5.400.
That put Swindoll on the ropes, and after the second run delivered another tire spinning result, the Texas resident figured out the surface on run three with a 5.256 at 140 mph, giving Swindoll a 5.067 average to climb back into the lead!
On the Stick Shift front, the top two rides lined up during the first session, with leader Robbie Kellerhals staging opposite Brooks Fleharty. Kellerhals remained consistent, backing up his 5.57 from Day One with a 5.56 on Day Two, staying atop the category with a 5.572 average.
But Fleharty made a big move, banging the gears just right in the ’86 Mustang to a 5.754 at 130.93 mph, lowering his average to a 5.945. Fleharty’s pass is also rumored to be a new eighth-mile record for the Tremec TKX transmission.
The Gasser categories showcased some improved performances across the board, and the Day One leaders kept their momentum intact for Bonne Terre Dragstrip and left with their leads.
Phil Haack stayed atop the A/Gasser category with his ’55 Chevrolet thanks to a 6.110 pass at Bonne Terre, giving him a 6.170 average thus far.
Defending B/Gasser champ Matt Donovan delivered a 6.184 at nearly 115 mph on his first crack at the track, but returned for a second try that became the first 5-second Gasser run of the event, a 5.910 at 117 mph! That gave Donovan a 5.999 average, and the lead in B/Gasser.
The Outlaw Gasser category had Michael White’s ‘Still Running’ Chevrolet atop the list for the second day, with a 6.521 at 108 mph pass giving him a 6.492 average and a solid lead.
The second day’s drive from Bonne Terre Dragstrip to the next stop on Edelbrock Sick 66, Midstate Dragway, would cover over 250 miles and four checkpoints.
The first checkpoint was a popular one, the home of the Bigfoot monster truck, where several Gassers gathered for this shot.
Then, it was onwards to the Chains of Rocks Bridge, which made an awesome backdrop for the 1957 Corvette of Glen Sheeley.
The Pink Elephant Antique Mall is full of Route 66 cool stuff, and was joined by the rare Reef Blue-hued 1993 Mustang of Mike Brown.
Finally, the final checkpoint of the day was the Route 66 Motorheads Bar & Grille. Dozens of Sick 66 travelers fueled up on cool Route 66 memorabilia and food, and checked out all the cool cars stuff in the massive multi-roomed location.
Tuesday, September 29, 2026 brings the Edelbrock Sick 66 tour to Midstate Dragway for Day Three racing action! Gates open for racers at 7 a.m., spectators at 8 a.m. and we should be on track for racing action starting at 9 a.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance to save some coin, or purchase directly at the gate.
