Kuhnle Motorsports Park (Formerly Thompson Motorsports Park) Closes Drag Race Track for 2024 – Listed as Available for Lease or Sale – Is One of America’s Oldest Tracks Future in Jeopardy?

Originally opened in 1958, Thompson Drag Raceway was billed as one of the early race tracks in Ohio. Operating under nearly every major drag racing sanctioning body, the track has played host to many events, and seen many records set over the six-plus decades of racing action.

But now, rumors are circulating that the future of the drag strip may be in jeopardy.

The track was purchased by the Kuhnle brothers in December of 2021, and they renamed the track from Thompson Raceway Park to Kuhnle Motorsports Park. The facility received some updates, and in addition to the existing drag strip, the facility started to host truck racing, as in semi-truck racing.

A separate track was built for competition that action, which has been popular for the facility.

As of Monday, February 26th, rumors started circulating that the drag strip could be closed for the 2024 season, even though the www.kuhnlemotorsports.com website shows dates for the semi-truck track.

On Tuesday, February 27th, the Facebook group ‘Kuhnle Motorsport Park (TRP) Forum reported the following: “The track is officially closed and all events that were or are scheduled for this year are canceled as well. It is up for leasing for the year, not daily or weekend rentals. Also for sale. Truck racing will still take place as posted and scheduled.”
