Lots of Miles and Plenty Michigan Coastline Are the Order of the Day, As We Roll Over 280 Miles on Day 4, Our First Drive Day, on Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil

Two days of racing, and over 550 miles on the street completed by Wednesday night, August 13th, Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil moved into the first of two days without racing.

Thursday, August 14th would have the competitors, as well as Sick Ward participants, set to prove the streetability of their rides with over 280 miles to travel, mostly on State Road-23. We would get started at the final checkpoint of Wednesday, August 13th, Mackinac Grille & Patio Bar.

Join us for our last three days of our first drag and drive through Michigan - Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil - August 15th, 16th and 17th, 2025! We’ve got The Ubly Dragway today, Woodware Dream Cruise tomorrow, and Darana Dragway on Sunday. Don’t miss out on your chance to join us - CLICK HERE for more info on Sick Michigan Miles!

The day dawned with the majority of the participants getting to watch the sunrise over Lake Huron, before hitting the road for the first checkpoint, Alpena Marina.

To get to Alpena Marina meant crossing the Mackinac Bridge Thursday morning, and we caught the husband-wife team of Eric and Christine Weigand on the bridge in her 1971 Pontiac Trans Am.

If you follow drag radial racing, and Matt Beebe’s 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle looks familiar, it’s because it’s the street version of his wife’s Kari Anne’s race car. Matt Beebe has been exploring a lot more than our checkpoints during the week, and has shown us a good number of trailer burnouts thus far as well.

Checkpoint two was one of the dozens of Big Boy locations, a Michigan restaurant staple and the icon used for our Day One track shirt with Milan Dragway / Darana Dragway. The restaurant’s familiar logo and colors is seen here through the windshield of Lori Mortensen’s 1968 Camaro.

Aydan Bailey snagged a prime parking spot in front of Sporty’s Wing Shack and Smoke House, our third checkpoint of the day. Bailey rolled the 280-plus miles without a hitch to be ready for the third day of racing today at The Ubly Dragway, August 15th.

Jason D’Amico was originally planning to attack Sick Michigan Miles in his C5 Corvette, but after clutch issues, he pressed his tow ring, an ’88 GMC one-ton dually pick-up, into service. It seems fitting to park a big truck like that in front of our final checkpoint, the USS Edson.

There are several lighthouses either along the routes, or not far from them. Sick The Mag’s announcer Derek Putnam checked out the Forty Mile Point lighthouse today, still in service and with an amazing view of Lake Huron.

It’s Friday, which means we’ll be visiting The Ubly Dragway today, Friday, August 15th, for our third day of racing. With just two days of racing left on Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil, call in ‘Sick’ and join us! Spectator tickets are available in advance for a discount on our website, or at the gate! CLICK HERE for more details for Sick Michigan Miles!
