Records Shattered as 4.17 and 4.20 Eighth-Mile Passes Drop the Stock Block Coyote and LS Records to New Lows

It’s been said that barriers are made to be broken, and within a span of three weeks, the stock block records for LS engines and Coyote engines have been dropped to new levels.

Dylan Cato (top) and Mat Brunette (bottom) now hold the LS stock block and Coyote stock block records.

It’s impressive, seeing how a lot of people automatically think at the power levels needed to run these numbers you would need an aftermarket block.

Granted, we don’t know the exact power number of either combination, as well as the weights of the cars. But it’s still an impressive feat nonetheless for Dylan Cato and Mat Brunette!

The LS-based contingent was hot and heavy this past weekend at Holley’s LS Fest at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Kentucky, with over 500 racers reported to be on the grounds. One of the classes getting attention was the Stock Block Shootout, and Dylan got the lion’s share of the focus when he lit the scoreboards with a 4.209 at 175.52 miles per hour, and a 1.088 60-foot time!

The Next Motorsports-assembled Mustang has been having a solid year with several wins around Dylan’s home base of Kentucky.

The car is powered by a stock block-based LS, assembled by Bischoff Engine Service (BES). It features a Dart crankshaft, Oliver connecting rods and Wiseco pistons.

A pair of Frankenstein Engine Dynamics LS7 cylinder heads and a LowPro intake complete the long block, with a Precision 102-millimeter turbocharger providing the extra atmosphere.

A Holley Dominator ECU gives the orders. An RPM Transmissions 2-speed Turbo 400 automatic and a PTC converter pass the power to RC Components wheels and Mickey Thompson tires.

On the Ford side there’s Mat Brunette, who has been making a name for himself in the No-Time 28-inch / 275 Radial Tire events around his home base of Quebec, Canada.

Mat laid down an impressive pass at Napierville Dragway just three weeks ago to claim the stock block coyote record: 4.176 at 169.49 mph with a 1.027 60-foot time!

The 4-eyed Fox Mustang bases its build on a sleeved Predator block, CNC’d Gen 2-cylinder heads with Modular Head Shop TBX camshafts, and a Shaun’s Custom Alloy intake were added to the parts sheet before Billet Pro Shop put the long block assembly together.

A BL Fabrications single 98-millimeter turbocharger adds all the boost to the mix, and a Holley Dominator ECU controls the action with Mat on the keyboard.

Power is passed through an automatic with a PTC converter to a TRZ Motorsports-fabbed 9-inch housing, and the Fox rolls on Weld Racing wheels with Mickey Thompson rubber.
