Rocky Mountain Race Week 2.0 and Redwood Rally Events Sell Out, Joining Hot Rod Drag Week as Filled Up events Despite Being on the Same Week

After selling out Rocky Mountain Race Week’s (RMRW) 1.0 event, the safe bet was on RMRW 2.0 following the same path, despite being on the same week in September as Hot Rod Drag Week in the mid-west, as well as Redwood Rally on the northwest corner of the United States.

And after Redwood Rally announced a sellout crowd on the evening of March 8th, RMRW 2.0 followed suit today with a sell out of all competitor spots.

Originally created as an add-on to the original RMRW in the summer during an event-cancelled 2020 season, the fifth annual RMRW 2.0 event will pull both competitors that are part of the 1.0 event, as well as a new market.

RMRW 2.0 will follow 1.0 for this year, making changes from the tracks used both in 2023, as well as RMRW 1.0. The two events will both utilize the all-concrete facility Texas Motorplex in Ennis for racing, and RMRW 2.0 will visit the storied Texas racing facility on Monday, September 16th.

Pine Valley Raceway have been selected for the beginning and ending track for RMRW 2.0, with a stop at State Capitol Dragway in Louisiana on Wednesday, September 18th and Twin City Motorsports, also in Louisiana, on the next day.

After a successful debut year in 2023, the Redwood Rally has returned to the west side of the U.S.A. for 2024. The tour will once again visit Coos Bay Speedway, Medford Dragstrip, and Samoa Dragstrip, but Woodburn Dragstrip will replace Redding Dragstrip on the 2024 track list.

The class count will grow by one to thirteen for this year, and just like RMRW 2.0, Redwood Rally sold out in less than a day.

An interesting sidenote of these announcements: RMRW 2.0 and Redwood Rally share similar dates with Hot Rod Drag Week, which is also a sold-out event.

As much as the racing community is mostly in favor of similar events not being stacked on top of each other, a wise track manager once told me ‘there are only so many weekends.’

All three events being located in different geographical areas of the United States no doubt helps, but the smart money would be on the bet that more than just a couple competitors had to make a choice between events.

There are 35 events on the current drag-and-drive calendar (and likely two-five will be added before the end of the year), and as of this writing, fourteen are sold out.

At the beginning of the year, I predicted the combination of a few events dropping off the calendar meant we were not going to increase the total number over last year’s 30 count. I was wrong, and with over a third of them sold out, my opinion is that there are not too many drag-and-drive events at this point.

If you didn’t make the cut for either event, not all hope should be lost. Both events will be offering waitlists; visit the Rocky Mountain Race Week 2.0 and Redwood Rally websites for more information.
