Piedmont Dragway in North Carolina Announces IHRA Has Purchased the Facility, Bringing the Total to Five Tracks Owned by the IHRA
As we originally reported in March of 2025, the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) sanctioning body was making some serious moves to reclaim their standings in both national and sportsman level racing.
The IHRA also planned to purchased several race tracks, and between March and May of 2025, they acquired four. The fifth, Piedmont Dragway, announced it was purchased by the IHRA on Thursday, August 7th, 2025.

As one of South Carolina’s premier drag strips, Darlington Dragway has not only hosted big name events for multiple sanctioning bodies, but also been the site of record runs and nearly fifty years of history.
The track got a lot of attention in March of 2025, as one of several race tracks targeted for potential purchase by the IHRA (International Hot Rod Association).
Although the track would not be purchased by the IHRA, just four months later, it has been sold to a new owner!
