One of the Quickest Stick Shift Cars in Drag and Drive Has Been Sold, as Marcus Davis Purchases the ‘FlatFox’ Mustang of Jeremy Howell as a Rolling Chassis!
One of the classes in drag racing that has been enjoying a surge in popularity, as well as an increasing number of competitors, is the Stick Shift classes. This is also carrying over to several drag and drive events as well, with both Sick The Magazine events getting solid counts in 2026.
One of the first stick shift cars to clock a 7-second pass in drag and drive competition is the ‘FlatFox’ Ford Mustang of Jeremy Howell. Today, news dropped about that his car has a new owner; what will its next chapter hold?
Sick The Magazine covers the drag and drive world online, AND IN PRINT! Each print magazine packs more than 200 pages in each issue, and includes features and photos, plus coverage of multiple events from the growing world of drag and drive. In the world of Coyote swaps, Jeremy went a slightly different route with the 1991 notch-style Mustang, opting for Ford’s Voodoo engine platform. Based around a dual-overhead cam V-8, the 5.2-liter uses a flat plane crankshaft as installed in Mustang Shelby GT-350 models starting in 2015. A big single turbocharger provides the additional atmosphere, and a T-56 manual lives in the transmission tunnel.
When the car made its drag and drive debut at the 2022 edition of Hot Rod Drag Week, Jeremy completed his first outing with a 9.28 average and a top ten finish in the Super Street Small Block Power Adder class.
But knowing that Jeremy had dipped into the 7.3-second range at 194 mph at the popular World Cup Finals at Maryland International Raceway, we figured a 7-second pass would come in the drag and drive event side soon.
It happened at the inaugural Sick Summer presented by TBM Brakes, where Jeremy picked up the Stick Shift class title, and the coveted Sick The Mag orange helmet, with an 8.46 average. But what opened a lot of eyes was Jeremy’s final pass of the week at Cordova Dragway: a 7.70 at 192 mph!
Jeremy backed it up with another solid showing at Hot Rod Drag Week in September 2023, as the Mustang delivered a 7.85 average for the week, finishing second in the competitive Modified class.
The following year, Jeremy made an early April testing session at US 131 Motorsports Park, and dropped an insane 7.06 at 205 mph pass! The small numbers were: 1.17 60 foot, and a 4.65 at 162 mph eighth-mile result. “It’s still the same set up we’ve been running since Sick Summer 2023,” he said. “We’re just learning the power management.”
What’s in store for this proven Mustang? Fellow stick shift driver Marcus Davis purchased the car as a rolling chassis to replace his 7-second proven S197-chassis Mustang. The car will continue to employ a stick shift in the transmission tunnel, and Marcus said he will use turbocharged Coyote for power.
“It’s bitter sweet,” Marcus said of putting his current car up for sale. “I originally built that car to run eights in the quarter-mile as a stick shift car. Kept going faster and faster down to the 7.6s; Way faster than I initially wanted to go. Now the goal is sixes. The S197’s roll cage is nowhere good enough for sixes. So, it was either cut that car up for a 25.3 (SFI cert) cage and do a ton of weight reduction, or buy a roller that already has it done.”
When asked about possibly competing in a drag and drive event with the car, Marcus answered: “Me and the guys are talking about it for sure! I mainly run events like Street Car Bragging Rights, FL2K, Mod Nationals and TX2K, but I wouldn’t be opposed to trying a drag and drive!
