Tom is ‘Throwing In The Towel’ – Big Changes and a BIG Test Session Coming Up

‘Sick Seconds 2.0’ holds the unique distinction of being the first, and so far, only car to run a 5-second pass at a drag-and-drive event, taking place on the final day of Hot Rod Drag Week 2019 at Virginia Motorsports Park.

But since then, Sick Seconds 2.0 hasn’t done what Tom Bailey has expected, suffering a pair of Did Not Finish results at Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive, and a plethora of issues leading to the car being sidelined since its last outing in July of 2023.

So, what’s going on with the storied Camaro? “During the thrash to get the Dodge Durango done, found out the housing was broke, er bent,” said Tom. “Strange Engineering got us a new housing, and then it got put on the back burner for us to get the Durango and everything else ready. Just too many projects, only one fab guy.”

In that lull since the Camaro last saw racing action, the competition is making strides. Jeff Lutz returned to drag-and-drive at Sick week this year with his ‘Mad Max’ ’69 Camaro, and although he didn’t finish, he clocked a 6.15 at 247 mph pass on day one, and STILL holds the record for best overall average at 6.19, a mark he set way back in 2016.

Brett LaSala is also chipping away at his performance, as the overall winner of Sick Week in 2024 just produced a 3.99 at 187 mph eighth-mile pass last night at South Georgia Motorsports Park with his ‘Snot Rocket 2.0’ 2012 Ford Mustang.

So, what’s Tom thinking? Getting out to US 131 Motorsports Park for a test session this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, possibly even Monday. “We need to get some testing in,’ Tom admitted. “Lots of sensors and lots of changes to Sick Seconds 2.0.”

But Sick Seconds 2.0 isn’t going alone. “This weekend we’re not only taking 2.0, but taking three other cars too.” What else are we taking to the track, and who else will be driving?
