Weather-Shortened Carolina Drag Cruise is Complete

The fifth drag-and-drive of the season, Carolina Drag Cruise, was completed on Sunday May 14th. The event started with racing action on Thursday May 11th at Greer Dragway in Greer, South Carolina, and got wrapped up at Shadyside Dragway in Shelby, North Carolina.

Winners of five classes were determined after two days of racing (shortened when Friday’s racing was rained out), and a Saturday cruise through South Carolina.

The Unlimited Street class split into Naturally Aspirated and Power-Adder winners; Jason Roberson would top the N/A class with his unique 2023 Goblin build, and picked up the Most Consistent award for the class as well.

Scott Green’s 1970 Ford Maverick got the top spot in the Unlimited Street Power-Adder class.

The Limited Street class found Mike Ford and his 1967 Pontiac LeMans at the top of the heap, and he snagged the Most Consistent award too.

The Modern Muscle class is designed around the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Street Legal class rules, which necessitates a 2008 or newer vehicle that runs 6.00 or slower in the eighth-mile.

Mark White delivered a pair of 6.66-second time slips, good enough to put his 2018 Chevrolet Camaro atop the Modern Muscle N/A class, and the award for Most Consistent.

Roger Olson made it an all-Camaro sweep with his 2018 Camaro ZL1 getting the Modern Muscle Power-Adder class win.

The Stick Shift class is always an interesting one, as consistency and making more than one good pass can easily shuffle the field.

Bronson Porter’s banged the gears on time in his 1991 Ford Mustang to grab the Stick Shift Power-Adder class win.

Kyle Chapman captured the N/A class win, plus the Most Consistent title, in his 2002 Chevrolet Camaro.

The True Street class is the one with the most rules, and also the biggest participation count. When the dust had settled, Jennifer Rudasill put her 1979 Pontiac Firebird atop the standings for the class win, while Mike Roberson’s 1995 Mazda Miata claimed the title for the Most Consistent ride in the class.

Jeremy Hudson had the fastest average reaction time over the course of the event, earning that award in his 2002 Chevrolet Camaro.

Stacy Galloway picked up the coveted “Spirit of Drag Cruise” win.
