One of the most impressive cars of last year’s Sick Powerfest burnout competition will be back!

Although there can be a huge difference in the approach and set-up of a prepped track to a non-prep surface, a few drag-and-drive competitors took the plunge and rolled to Central Alberta Raceways for their shot at a class win at the No Prep 8 event.

Miles of Mayhem, contested from July 23rd through the 28th, concluded its five days of driving and racing on the eighth-mile standard, and crowned champions in eight classes.

Scott Higgs and Blake Housley are the men behind the efforts to bring a new drag strip to Missouri, and the new Flying H Drag Strip is currently scheduled to be completed by October 2023.

Following this year’s Sick Summer, Tim Flanders decide to head for the NMRA’s third event of the 2023 and enter the 8.60-index Street Race class. “I went straight from Cordova, drove all night, slept for about 45 minutes at my house, and ran the 8.60 class at Norwalk,” he said.

“After changing directions and plans numerous times, the last five years is when I got serious about it. I wanted an 80-percent street car and 20-percent race car.”

The eight-car shootout field was selected from drivers and rides that had completed a drag-and-drive, and the weekend included some great match-ups, personal best times, and our first driver to go undefeated for the event in five match-ups.

“I don’t really have any track racing experience besides just test and tune. But I have street raced ever since I got my driver’s license.”

With the increased popularity of drag-and-drive events, some of the classes and participants have been showcased in other series as well in 2023. The National Hot Rod Association hosted drivers for exhibition pass at two events in 2023; Now the National Muscle Car Assocation will do the same at this weekend’s Power Festival at US 13 Motorsport Park in Martin, Michigan.

Just a few days after news broke about Atco Dragway in New Jersey being sold and closing their gates to the racing community, another track has been sold and likely faces a similar fate.

This marks the second major track in New Jersey to close its doors to the drag racing community in five years. Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, which opened in 1965, announced that the venue will cease hosting all drag racing events in early 2018.

Bandimere Speedway, a storied facility that has played host to hundreds of events including Street Car Takeover and stops on Rocky Mountain Race Week, is the center of attention this weekend.

The legendary track is hosting its 43rd and final NHRA national event, the Dodge Power Brokers NHRA Mile High Nationals, and Rocky Mountain Race Week is playing a part in the event.

After a 2023 Sick Week victory for Michael Westberg, his winning 1991 S-10 was sold and off to its new owner as a rolling chassis. But Westberg said the winning driveline would find a new home for debut in Sweden in 2023.
