Day one of the epic trip known as Death Week was upon us, and the lanes were packed and ready to go by 9:30 a.m.

The craziest, most insane event in the history of street car drag racing is underway with Death Week taking to the track at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

The months of planning, testing and plotting a “let’s have fun” but “can we survive” strategy is about to be put to the test; it’s tech inspection and testing day for Death Week at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

When Geoff Dugapolski started out at Hot Rod Drag Week, it was in a 1978 Chevrolet Malibu, a “rusty junky” Malibu in his words. “After getting into Hot Rod Magazine’s coverage two times with my Malibu, I thought I should try something nicer.”

The third track on the epic adventure known as Death Week, is also the one with the most history – Famoso Drag Strip, and we will visit it on Wednesday, October 25th in the later afternoon / evening.

Since 2022, Sick Week has become the kick-off event for the drag-and-drive season, and can bring new builds, as well as existing rides with new updates, rolling into the event untested with fingers crossed hoping for the best.

Death Week has taken on a “can you and your ride survive the ultimate drag-and-drive” focus. But there’s no shortage of proven rides coming to Death Week.

2023 is seeing some drag-and-drive competitors in the no-prep scene, including Mikael Borggren and his Volvo station wagon, and David and Nick Diehl’s Mustangs.

An epic once-in-a-lifetime drag-and-drive like Death Week has lots of cool things that bring it one step above other drag-and-drive events. One of those will be limited edition t-shirts for each track day of the event!

A new addition for the 2023 edition of the popular No Mercy event was the Street Car Braggin Rights Street Car class, and some familiar drag-and-drive names jumped into the street car sandbox to battle it out for a $10,000 winner payout.

With a once-in-a-lifetime road trip that spans nearly 2,000 miles, track selection is just as critical, and Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park will provide the starting point for Death Week.

The six-second quarter-mile street car barrier has been broken in Australia with Mark Whitla’s Ford Capri delivering an outstanding 6.91/208mph at the brand new Dragway at The Bend facility as part of Street Machine Drag Challenge.

Some automotive enthusiasts can easily point the finger at what got them into the sport. That’s the case for Jason Stanford and his dad Joe, who recently completed their second drag-and-drive event together at this year’s Hot Rod Drag Week.

We’ve watched as Garrett Mitchell (a.k.a. Cleetus McFarland) has gone from a part time YouTuber and a possible career as a lawyer, to doing YouTube full time, purchasing a race track, expanding his team, and knocking down several personal goals.
