From Hard Charger to Sick BBQ Truck Wheeler – Alex Brody Will Experience His Second Sick 66 at the Helm of the Sick BBQ / Hot Dog / Ice Cream Truck on the Edelbrock Sick 66!
Granted, the drag and drive event structure is based in proving what can survive and thrive in a street car. But closely behind, as thousands of competitors and enthusiasts have discovered, is the chance to experience new race tracks, travel new states, and create some incredible memories.
Originally wheeled by Tom Bailey at drag and drive events as a way to keep competitors fed at each track day, the Sick BBQ – Hot Dog – Ice Cream truck started to get a variety of two and three person crews at Sick The Mag event starting in 2023, opening the door to a different experience on a drag and drive and creating amazing memories for those duos and teams.

From a couple dozen applications for the Edelbrock Sick 66 event, a familiar name was nominated. He has done several drag and drive events, starting with Sick The Magazine’s Death Week in 2023, our 2400-mile trek through multiple states on the west coast. “It has permanently ruined me,” was quoted by Alex Brody.
Good friend Danny Grubaugh nominated Alex Brody for Sick BBQ – Hot Dog – Ice Cream truck duty on Sick 66 this year, which is a special event for the Brody family. Two years ago, on the first edition of Edelbrock Sick 66, three generations of the Brody family: Alex, his parents Brad and Lori, and Brad’s parents Ken and Diane, all got to compete in the event. It marked the first time Ken had raced in 60 years!
Grubaugh and Alex Brody met at the Duct Tape Drags, with the introduction facilitated by the Death Week sticker on Grubaugh’s AMC Horner Sportabout wagon Gucci edition. The two have done several events ever since, and as Grubaugh puts it “Alex says I met this random guy in parking lot and now he won’t leave.”
For Alex Brody, he has shared the passenger seat of his 1974 Dodge Charger with either his dad or his mom for most of the events he’s attended. As such, his mom Lori will join him in the Sick BBQ – Hot Dog – Ice Cream truck for this year’s Sick 66 event.
“I feel like it is going to be a totally different experience and I’m looking forward to it,” said Alex. “Although I’ll miss the Charger and the fun I have with it, I’ll get to talk with a ton of different people without worrying about the racing.”
