Nick Cryer, Jack Brooks, Lamar Swindoll Jr and Mike Finnegan Produce the Quickest Times During Testing on Day Zero of Edelbrock Sick Smokies at Rocket City Dragway
A sunny and warm day at Rocket City Dragway provided the basis for Day Zero of Edelbrock Sick Smokies, as over 200 cars and trucks were teched in and given some testing time on the drag strip.
A diverse field of entries from across the US and Canada came together in the staging lanes, and we got to witness some stellar runs, and some familiar faces dropped some solid elapsed times during the test and tune on Day Zero.

Leading the pack in testing number is Nick Cryer and his ’33 Ford. One run proved to be all it told for Nick to hit the magic number, as a 4.69 at 153 mph lit the scoreboard for the eighth-mile results of the twin-turbo hot rod.
Also invading the four-second zone would be Jack Brooks and the ’64 Chevrolet Nova he calls ‘DirtNasty.’ Jack put together a 4.83 at 152 mph blast.
Just outside the 4-second range, and one of the quickest nitrous small tire cars in drag and drive, is the Chevrolet Camaro of Lamar Swindoll Jr. A 5.02 at 140 mph was his best shot out of two attempts.
Jarrod Aspegren went for a wild wheelie ride on his first shot, pointing the nose of his first-gen Chevrolet Nova skyward twice before getting all four wheels back on the ground. The turbocharged ride returned for a 5.42 at 138 mph later in the afternoon without the wheelie.
We have a healthy contingent of gassers in attendance, and two of the quicker ones, Mike Finnegan and Jeremy Bonnett, staged up for side-by-side 5-second contest, where Finnegan’s ’55 Chevrolet ‘Blasphemi’ clocked a 5.48 at 129 mph over the 5.72 at 119 mph from the ‘Last Penny’ Willys of Bonnett.
Monday, October 13th, will signal the first day of competition of the Edelbrock Sick Smokies event. We’ll return to Rocket City Dragway with gates opening for competitors and Sick Spit Show and Shine at 8 am, while the spectator side and Sick Ward gates open at 9 am.
We’ll have a drivers meeting for competitors at 9 am, and on-track racing action will take place from 10 am until 2 pm.
