Father and Son Switch From Funny Cars to Street Legal Thrills for Sick Smokies
Edelbrock Sick Smokies will bring Gassers, hot rods, and nostalgia vibes to the mountains, but one car on the starting line will carry more history than most: Casey Geeslin’s 1969 Chevrolet Camaro.
“My dad bought it for me when I was 10,” he said. “We restored it together to be my first car. I’ve owned it 27 years now, and still love it like the first day we got it. It was my high-school hot rod, I drove it on my wedding day, my kids went to their first car show in it, and my dad still helps me work on it.”

The Camaro carries a 355ci small-block Chevy paired with a Powerglide transmission. It’s not the fastest machine in the field—Casey admits as much—but it’s just as special. Now it’s set to tackle five drag strips and a 900-mile drive through Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia.
“The Camaro isn’t really fast, but it should be fun. Hopefully, it makes the whole trip! My friends are running the Gasser class and I wanted to go be a part of something really cool.”
Casey’s story in racing runs deep. He started when he was just seven years old in a Junior Dragster and has raced everything from Pro Mods to a blown alcohol front-engine dragster. These days, he pilots a blown alcohol ’69 Camaro Funny Car known as The Gambler. On top of that, he works at the family-owned hot rod shop during the day and spends time with his daughters when he’s not racing.
“My whole family eats, sleeps, and breathes drag racing,” Casey said.
Edelbrock Sick Smokies (October 12-19, 2025) will be hitting Rocket City Dragway (Huntsville, AL), Music City Raceway (Goodlettsville, TN), Fitzgerald Motorsports Park (Crossville, TN), Knoxville Raceway (Maynardsville, TN) and Brainerd Motorsports Park (Ringgold, GA), with the 70+ Gassers to be joined by 200 more of America’s toughest street cars in a street car drag racing event not to be missed.
