Level Up – Jamie Doller Acquires a New Camaro Project, with Plans of a 6-Second Drag and Drive Ride On the ‘To-Do’ List!
A familiar ride in the drag and drive community, Jamie Doller and his 1971 Chevrolet Camaro has participated in several events, capturing the class win in Rowdy Radial at the 2025 edition of Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive.
But despite having lots of 4-second eighth-mile and mid 7-second quarter-mile performances, Jamie was ready to start collecting quicker and faster time slips. And although he considered cutting up his classic Camaro for a more extensive roll cage to allow for quicker than 7.50-second time slips, he found an alternative, and the ideas are already brewing.

“After changing my mind 487 times over the last few months on what way to go (building a new car or cutting up and starting over with my orange Camaro), I have finally lucked out and found the perfect start to a 6.0 certified drag and drive build,” said Jamie.
An older build based on a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro that was started but never finished, Jamie went to check out the car, and took it home. “Turns out I knew of the car all along, and never entertained the idea,” he said. Good friend Steven Little advised him to make the trip to Nashville, Tennessee.
After giving the car an examination, the results came in with the roll cage being of chromoly construction. The rear of the car sports an aftermarket 4-link suspension, along with a fabricated 9-inch rear end with 40-spline internals, including Mark Williams axles.
“With a few changes to the floor, motor plate area, and front suspension, this thing should be very capable and light,” said Jamie. “The rear tin work is all done and very nice. It started as an outlaw 10.5” car that was never finished.”
Although the car will be finished with the ability to compete in a variety of classes and events, drag and drive will be the main focus. The first thought was taking the turbocharged LS driveline out of the ’71 Camaro, but brother Brandon Doller is trying to influence Jamie with a different idea.
“He has other ideas,” Jamie said about Brandon, who has proposed building another twin turbo big block, possibly using his own Nova’s engine as a template. Which one will win out for the 1998 Camaro’s engine bay?
