After a decade of participating in drag and drive events, Sick The Magazine hosted our first event in 2022, Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive. 2026 will mark a five-year anniversary for the event, and since then we have added in the Motion Raceworks Sick Summer event, plus two to four more events each year.

We realize that an event is not just about the results and the awards, but “For The Adventure” as Tom Bailey, founder of Sick The Magazine, has stated since we started. That philosophy plays into not only how we approach each event, but also looks beyond the competition, including our Summit Racing Equipment Sick Ward Presented by PEAK Performance, and Sick Spit Show & Shine options.

This week’s submission comes from Wyatt Nejdl, who joined father Doug for the second time on a drag-and-drive at this year’s Sick Summer with their 1988 Ford Mustang.

The event would be centered around Alaska Raceway Park, an National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) sanctioned quarter-mile track in Palmer Alaska.

“My first ever drag-and-drive was Sick Summer 2023, when my husband Jerry Konstatos put us with my 1987 Cutlass, “She Gone” on the waiting list. As luck would have it, we got in, and survived in the Dial-Your Own (DYO) Class D. I made top 100 to earn my place for 2024.”

This week’s “For the Adventure – Stories from the Road” comes from Dylan Peacock, co-pilot on Jordan Boudreaux’s 2002 Ford Mustang that competes on Sick Week’s 275 Street Race class. Sidelined on day one of Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive 2022, Dylan and Jordan thought their week was over, until fellow competitor Eric Cowell got them back on track with an unusual fix.

“Twice we had to stop because you could smell the transmission (we thought.....). The transmission temperature needle was buried north of 240, both in the pan and in the cooler line.”

“I had wanted for some years to do a drag-and-drive. The first Sick Week, being close to home, really sparked a desire. So when this Chevelle was offered to me, I decided to do Sick Week 2024 with it.”

We’re doing the ultimate drag-and-drive / road trip on one of the most popular highways in America: Route 66, plus Sick the Magazine, to create Sick 66! It all starts October 10th at Ozark Raceway Park in Missouri, and we’ll wrap it up eight days later at Albuquerque Dragway in New Mexico on October 18th.

Tom Bailey has tested and raced at Milan Dragway a bunch, and wanted to do more to support a local track. “We want to give back to the sport and the tracks that have created some amazing memories for us.”
