Jeremy Ortiz Hopes Win Streak with His Turbocharged LS-Swapped 240 Will Continue at Sick On the Green and Sick Summer

There’s something to be said about striving to do your best, and coming up just a little shy of the top spot. It can make you dig deeper, work harder, and strive for the top spot a little bit more.

Most competitors would likely be happy with a pair of top three finishes at Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks, but Jeremy Ortiz plans to roll in prepared better than ever this year.

Since his first Sick Summer, Ortiz has captured multiple wins at various events and tracks. His most recent victories came in Extreme Radials at Muncie Dragway, then Ortiz followed it up at Street Car Braggin Rights (SCBR), where he scored the SCBR Shootout Wild class accolades.

Now, with his Nissan 240 sporting a single turbo LS swap seemingly on rails, Ortiz turns his focus to this week’s Sick On The Green event at Beech Bend Raceway Park. Then two weeks later, he will return to Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks in hopes of securing a Street Race 275 class victory.

Over 500 Competitors and 16 Classes Highlight 4th Annual Street Car Braggin Rights – Jim Braun, Keith Rhea and Aaron Miller Lead Winners List

Ask any promoter: the amount of work needed to host a successful event once is more than most would think. To continually raise the bar takes dedication, plus a solid team, race track and sponsors to make it attainable.

For the fourth time, Street Car Braggin Rights and its creator, Nate Prater, hosted a slew of street-legal rides in the Carolinas, with record attendance pushing racing action into the early morning hours.

The 2025 edition of Street Car Braggin Rights (SCBR) would mark a few firsts for the event. It would be the first time SCBR would be held at Rockingham Dragway in Richmond, North Carolina, as well as the first time roll racing was added to the event. It would also expand the event to three full days of racing, May 15th through the 17th, with an optional test day for drag racing on May 14th.

Over 500 entries pre-registered, and by the early morning hours on May 18th, champions were crowned in all 16 classes.

Devin Vanderhoof and Josh Davis Bust into the Three-Second Range with a 3.99 at 185 MPH Blast in Testing with Sick Week-Winning Mustang

After a notable 2023 season where this 1993 Ford Mustang convertible picked up a trio of drag and drive wins, including the Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive and the Sick Summer Presented by TBM Brakes event, owner Devin Vanderhoof decided to make some major changes in 2024.

That list included a switch from a stock-style suspension to an aftermarket (parallel) 4-link suspension, double frame railing the Mustang, upgrading the roll cage to a 25.1 / 25.2 SFI-certification, and putting the car on a diet and removing around 200 pounds of heft.

Vanderhoof and Davis started their 2025 season with a win at this year’s Sick Week in the Modified class, including a new personal best pass of 6.37 at 227 mph at Gainesville Raceway (with eighth-mile numbers of 4.23 at 181 mph).

Just a couple week later, Vanderhoof and Davis returned to South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) for the popular radial tire Lights Out event to participate in the ‘Braggin Rights’ street car class. After a few days of work, the team captured the overall title with a 6.38 at 228 mph final round blast.

But a recent test session at Carolina Dragway yielded a performance number they've been working towards for a long time.

After two days of qualifying, eliminations got underway on Saturday, February 22nd, and were completed on Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, by crowning winners in thirteen different classes.

As we covered on Thursday’s first qualifying session story, the Radial Versus the World class grabbed headlines when Paolo Guist reset the class record with a 3.479 pass. The other half of that pair, Ken Quartuccio, clocked a 3.49 on that run, but would return on Friday, February 21st, to drop the record further with a 3.743 run.

Quartuccio employed that performance through eliminations, using a pair of 3.4-second runs to score his third final round appearance in as many events.
