The Next Level – Jeff and Tyler Moll Put Together a C4 Corvette For Small Tire and Drag and Drive Competition, with 6-Second Goals!

Tyler Moll was born into cars and racing at a young age, and part of that upbringing included drag and drive events. Father Jeff Moll participated in a wide variety of racing avenues, including what many consider the lead-up to Hot Rod Drag Week, the Pump Gas Drags.

With both father and son having a good bit of racing experience, Tyler and Jeff have decided to make the jump to a new build, with the potential to shake things up in both small tire racing, and plans for drag and drive competition in 2027!

“Racing has always been something our family enjoys doing together, and that’s a big reason I continue doing it today,” said Tyler. “My first real introduction to drag-and-drive racing was in 2017 at Hot Rod Drag Week.”

That particular Hot Rod Drag Week was father Jeff’s first Drag Week since doing the Hot Rod Pump Gas Drags back in 2004. “That was the moment I knew I wanted to compete in drag and drive events,” Tyler said. “For me, it’s about much more than just going fast. It’s the adventure, the people you meet, and the memories you make along the way.”

Many may remember Jeff’s ’67 4-door Chevy Nova, a regular at drag and drive events, for several years. Sporting a LS-swap and a ProCharger to power the full interior full weight ride to bottom 9-second runs, Tyler has been on board for a few events with Jeff, including Sick The Mag’s first one-off event, Death Week, in 2023, where Jeff scored the fourth spot overall.

“If I had to pick a favorite event, it would be Death Week,” Tyler admitted. “There’s just something about the challenge, the atmosphere, and the people that makes it unlike anything else.”

At the beginning of 2026, Tyler and Jeff decided to embark on a new challenge, purchasing this 1994 Corvette. “We bought the car from our friend Greg Cullum, who is well known in the extreme bracket racing world,” said Tyler. “We wanted to step into full tube-chassis racing, and the timing was right for the purchase.”

The C4 design Corvette is an older Pro Stock-style chassis that was originally built with a big block Chevrolet engine and a Powerglide transmission, but the Molls had new plans for powering it, while keeping the weight down.

The Corvette now sports a BTR-built Dart aluminum-block 427 cubic inch LS, with a pair of Precision Turbo & Engine Next Gen 68/70-millimeter turbochargers. It’s backed by a Turbo 400 transmission from Bryant Goldstone, and the power is passed to a Mark Williams Enterprises rear end supported by a 4-link suspension. Holley EFI will control all the major functions.

“We’re hoping to get the car tested over the summer, and make its first appearances at some local races at Bonne Terre before the end of the year,” said Tyler, who will handle the driving duties. “After that, we’d like to have it ready for its first drag and drive event within the next year.”

The car will likely slot into Unlimited classes at drag and drive events because of the chassis and weight, where quick performances are the name of the game. “Our goal is to run in the 4-second range in the eighth-mile at our local tracks,” Tyler said. “Gear Vendors Overdrive Sick Week is definitely one of the events we want to compete in, and the long-term goal is to build one of the lightest and most competitive drag-and-drive cars in the country.”
