The Stick Shift World Record Is Reset After Two Years – Joel Grannas Clocks 6.49 Pass in New 2JZ-Powered Fox Mustang Build During Test Session at Bradenton Motorsports Park!
The increasingly hot topic in racing the past few years has been stick shift cars, and although there are several classes with strict rules, the one that has gotten the majority of the attention is the Outlaw Stick Shift contingent.
With minimal rules based around the use of a H-pattern manual transmission, and in most cases, a foot-activated clutch, 28-inch tall x 10.5-inch width tires, the elapsed times started falling a few years back, where 6-second runs started to become a little more commonplace.
One of the veterans of the Outlaw Stick Shift wars is Joel Grannas, who got his Mark IV Supra down to a 6.63 at 212 mph pass during The Reunion event at Bradenton Motorsports Park (BMP) in early 2025. Recently, Grannas returned to BMP with a new ride, and made a big statement in the stick shift world.

In May 2024 at US 131 Motorsports Park, the H-pattern Stick Shift record would be claimed by Nick Cole-Mann, and more than once! He opened with a 6.60 at 210 mph, a run good enough to snatch the record from Jonathan Atkins.
But Cole-Mann wasn’t done, as he lowered the mark even more, to a 6.495 at 219.52 mph pass in his S-10 pick-up, the very truck that was the first LS to clock a 6-second stick shift run at Orlando Speed World Dragway.
That record held for over two years and countless attempts, but with new cars coming into the game in 2026, many predicted the record could be in trouble. One of the cars to watch would be Grannas’ Fox Mustang, which reportedly weighed in a huge 500 pounds lighter than his Supra.
After some shakedown eighth-mile runs runs that qualified the car for the WCF entry list (an entry into the event requires a minimum et with time slip / photo / video verification), Grannas went a bit further on passes tonight at Bradenton Motorsports Park.
Grannas produced a 6.490 at 222 mph, enough to claim the quickest H-pattern stick shift record, with less than half a dozen runs on the new build!
But unfortunately, it wasn't all good news for Grannas on the run. "Got the record on the first outing, which is amazing," said Grannas. "But the chutes didn’t come out. I tried to save it, but spun way at the end of the shutdown trying to stay out of the strawberry field (at the end of the shutdown at Bradenton Motorsports Park).
Grannas says the car is fixable; will he push the record even lower yet considering this is the first outing with the new car?
