Cementing His Legacy – After Seven Years with a ’63 Ford Galaxie, Bobby Frizzell Will Add Another Chapter to This Gasser’s Storyline by Competing at the Edelbrock Sick Smokies Event This October!
Some classic rides enjoy a lengthy ownership under the individual that originally purchased them, and in the case of this ’63 Ford Galaxie 500, it was also raced not long as after leaving the dealership.
After more than five decades of ownership, The Galaxie changed hands in 2018 to a new owner, Bobby Frizzell. He has continued to exercise the car on the track, and will add in the street element in a couple weeks when he embarks on Edelbrock Sick Smokies.
Sick Smokies Presented by Edelbrock, is ALMOST HERE, October 12-19th, 2025! With over 70 Gassers and more than 250 total competitors, we’ll do 7 days cruising the South, including Tail Of The Dragon, and visit 4 different race tracks! Discounted advanced spectator tickets, as well as Sick Ward / Sick Spit Show & Shine entries are available - CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT MORE about Sick Smokies!!
Like the Galaxie, Frizzell comes from a drag racing way of life since the 1960s, and since acquiring the Galaxie, Frizzell has endured plenty of racing, as well as drag and drive events. Frizzell has competed in both Hot Rod Drag Week, as well as Southeast Street N Yeet, and for 2025, he added the Edelbrock Sick Smokies event, and will return to Street N Yeet.
Frizzell still employs a healthy dose of blue oval Ford power under the tear drop hood of the Galaxie, with 468 cubic inches of FE-based with a 4-speed manual behind it. Still car still has several nods to racing in the 60s, with the painted ‘Legacy’ name and ‘S/S’ on the sail panel to denote the class.
The Edelbrock Sick Smokies event will give Frizzell a chance to improve on his best performance of 6.50 on the eighth-mile standard, as well as drive the Galaxie through Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia on a unique Edelbrock CVS dual carburetor set-up.
“(The) Tail of the dragon will be the biggest issue I think,” said Frizzell of his concerns about Sick Smokies. He plans to upgrades the brakes to better handle what the roads may bring, but he’s excited about doing the event, and having fun while doing it.
“This year’s goal: full interior, all steel, all glass, street legal 4 speed drag and drive car that can put serious pressure on the field,” Frizzell wrote in January. “And let’s throw in some no prep stick shift racing for fun. Just got to see if we fit into the rules anywhere that makes sense.”
Can this cool, old school Galaxie challenge the Gasser field and survive nearly 900 miles of street driving? Don’t miss your chance to see over 200 competitors, including the largest gathering of street-legal Gassers, on the Edelbrock Sick Smokies event, October 12th-19th! CLICK HERE for more details!
