Group Therapy – After Conquering Sick 66 in 2024, Greg Overman Sets His Sights on Another Top Ten Result, and an Adventure With Friends, At Edelbrock Sick Smokies

With time spent in the automotive performance industry, as well as a good amount of time spent drag racing, it’s fair to say that Greg Overman is an enthusiast.

But when one of his friends participated in a Sick The Mag drag and drive event, it would set in motion a small group of friends attending the Edelbrock Sick 66 event in 2024. That same group of friends will embark on another drag and drive adventure together, as set their sights on the Edelbrock Sick Smokies event, October 12-19th, 2025.

Don’t miss your chance to join Sick The Mag on a drag and drive for 2025 - Sick Smokies Presented by Edelbrock, on October 12-19th, 2025! We’re doing seven days cruising the South, including Tail Of The Dragon, with over 70 GASSERS and north of 250 competitors! Sick The Magazine’s first ‘one off’ event in 2023, Death Week, put the competitors through three states, four different race tracks, and over 2,000 miles street miles. One of those competitors was Daniel Roberts with his stick shift 1996 Ford Mustang, and his week of memories would lead to a yearly adventure for Roberts, Overman and a few others.

“(Roberts) got us all to sign up for Sick 66 and we had an absolute blast during that event,” said Overman. “We decided that we would all try from then on to get together to do a long format drag and drive together every year.

“We spent most of our 20s around each other, but as we have gotten older, we all have all separated across the country for work and life. It is an awesome way for us to get together at least once a year in person and have an awesome shared experience. So, I am most excited to get together with these guys and enjoy racing and going on an adventure together.”

After owning a chunk of late model GM sports cars, including a couple Corvettes, Overman made a change in employment, and that led to his current hot rod. “I got into the medical field, and the ZL1 was my first big purchase after that transition,” Overman said. “It has just been an amazing vehicle.”

The LT-design supercharged engine, combined with a 10-speed automatic transmission, got Overman a 6.55 average, and a best pass during Sick 66 of 6.36 at 110 mph, enough to earn a Top Ten finish. And it didn’t take much time to figure out where the group of friends would go next.

“When it was announced at Sick 66, my group all knew that Sick Smokies is where wanted to go for the next event,” said Overman. “It is going to be some epic drives and great racing.”

Although Overman’s ZL1 Camaro has seen some changes and hop-ups since Sick 66, he hasn’t had much time to test them out. “I’m hoping some small changes might net me some quicker times than on Sick 66,” he said. “I want to try to improve (my performance) at Sick Smokies.”

Can Greg Overman’s blue bomber Camaro pull off another top ten result and survive the southern roads? Come out and watch him join over 250 competitors, including the largest gathering of street-legal Gassers, on the Edelbrock Sick Smokies event, October 12th-19th! CLICK HERE for more details!
