Final Call for Sick Sevens And Sick 8.50 Shootout at Speedfest, Junior Street Class Announced!

The inaugural Speedfest Presented By Sick, Street Car Takeover and Braggin Rights at Beech Bend Raceway on May 28-30 will showcase some of the quickest and most competitive street cars in the nation.

Sick has already announced the new Sick Sevens class (7.50 index) and the Sick 8.50 Shootout, and now we can proudly announce both the format for those classes and a new class for Speedfest: Junior Street!

“The 8.50-second based classes have traditionally been a popular choice at several drag and drives, including our Sick Week and Sick Summer events,” said Tom Bailey, creator of Sick The Magazine. “With the level of competition in these class structure in recent years, we wanted to showcase the best of the best in a new format for a chance at a coveted Sick The Mag orange helmet.

“We have also gotten some requests for a 7.50-second limited class, and since this would be a natural step-up from the 8.50-second cage limited classes, we’re giving those competitors their shot in our new ‘Sick Sevens’ class.”

After feedback from hundreds of potential competitors, the Sick 8.50 Shootout will allow the funny car-type roll cages that some 8.50-second classes prohibit.

“Some competitors say the funny car cage rule has been holding them back from participating in an 8.50-second type class,” said Bailey. “We welcome those cages in our Street Race 275 class at Sick Week and Sick Summer events, so we will have them at Speedfest and see if these 'funny cars' can beat some of the baddest 8.50-cage cars."

Now for the format on the Sick Sevens and Sick 8.50 Shootout classes, which will combine key points of a drag and drive-style class, but with a winner-takes-all difference.

Competitors in the two classes will be required to submit three time slips, with at least one from each of the two days of competition. There will also be a required street drive with checkpoints, which will be conducted between the first and second sessions on Friday.

The top ten racers by average after the last session on Saturday will then go into the finals during the Night of Fire. Each competitor will get one run to go as close to the index as possible without going under. Tenth and ninth place will run first, followed by eighth and seventh and so on. Closest to the mark from all ten racers gets the win!

We’ve already approved some solid competitors, but this week marks your final chance to submit your ride for approval and the chance to compete. Early entry submission cutoff for Sick Sevens and Sick 8.50 Shootout is 11:59 p.m. Sunday, March 1.

Sick The Magazine also has our third class announcement today. Junior Street is the perfect option for younger racers to get involved at Speedfest. This class will be run using the same format as our popular Dial Your Own classes used at Sick Week and Sick Summer, except restricted to a 9.00 eighth-mile (per NHRA and IHRA requirements).
