Josh Davis, Stefan Gustafsson and Tanner Stover Serve Up Record Times at South Georgia Motorsports Park on Day Two of Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive
Following an eventful Day One of Sick Week presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive at host track Gainesville Raceway, more than 300 competitors, and hundreds of Sick Ward enthusiasts, rolled northward to South Georgia Motorsports Park for Day Two action.
We were once again greeted with cool temps, and for the first time in three days, the temperatures started to warm up a bit into the afternoon, but nowhere near as hot as the race track.
The 2026 edition of Gear Vendors Overdrive Sick Week is underway NOW!! Don’t miss the chance to see over 300 competitors battling for a class win, while trying to survive over 900 street miles of driving through Florida - over the next 4 days! Despite rules of only requiring a 235 sidewall (26-inch-tall x 8.5-inch width) tire, the Rowdy Radial class was usually a high 4-second, low 5 second class at most drag and drive events. That all changed in 2023 when Jordan Tuck and Devin Vanderhoof combined for a 4.644 average in the class, along with a 4.595 best single run.
For the first time in three years, both records are in jeopardy. Tanner Stover blasted to a new best lap of 4.576 at 162.63 mph, unofficially snatching the single run record. As good as that lap is, Tanner sits third in class (4.744 average) behind Blayne Stark in first with a 4.654 average, followed closely by Kevin Smith’s 4.658 average in second.
Speaking of Devin, him and driver Josh Davis sit atop the heap overall with a 6.164 average. Now, we’re only 2 days in, but that average is better than world record holder Ned Dunphy’s 6.175 average that was set at Hot Rod Drag Week 2025. After opening with a 6.134 at 220 mph on Day One at Gainesville Raceway, they followed with a 6.194 at 231 mph run at SGMP.
Right behind Devin and Josh is Swede Stefan Gustafsson and the ‘Bittersweet’ ’70 Camaro. They opened with a 6.277 on Day One, but followed with a personal-best 6.163 at 233 mph on Day Two. The resulting 6.22 average is within reach of the top spot, which Stefan has claimed twice on Sick Week. Could a record third win be in the cards?
David Armentrout sits in the top spot in Unlimited Iron, wheeling his ’67 Chevy II to a second 6.71 time slip in two days, while Alex Taylor is in second and Les Smith in third.
The ’72 Monte Carlo of Alan Whitaker is in control of the Heavy Metal class, with a pair of 6.9-second results, the best being a 6.962 at 207.69, getting him a 6.974 average and the lead over former Rowdy Radial winner Jamie Dollar in second, and the clean ’67 Firebird of Jim Trettel in third.
The Camaro of Val Morris is doing well thus far on its first drag and drive event, and she’s getting closer to her first 6-second pass. A 7.02 at 202 mph held her first place spot intact at a 7.11 average, with the Mustangs of Chris Benoure and Leticia Hughes right behind her.
Triple sevens are the top three in Super Street, with Bradley Arnold’s LS-swapped Buick leading Richard ‘RC’ Flint and Jordan Boudreaux. All three drivers laid down their personal best runs in drag and drive event trim on day two, with the 7.10 of Boudreaux the best of the bunch.
Stick Shift is an all-Ford affair in the top three, with a bit of LS mixed in. Defending class champ Darin Hendricks sits in front with an 8.21 average, 2-time Sick Summer champ ‘Banger Bob’ Gruber is in second with an 8.53 average, and Canadian Chris Hein third with an 8.64.
Randy Fuller is making his first appearance in the Naturally aspirated class a good one, as he is in command with a 7.71 average after two days. Drag and drive veteran Jason Tabscott is leading Naturally Aspirated Small Block with an 8.41 average from his ’70 Camaro.
Trevor Branden is leading the Sick Week Freaks class with his 2010 GT-R, and is hoping to hang on for his first 7-second average. He currently has a best single run of 7.73, and a 7.95 average.
Robby Wysuph and Mike Finnegan are battling it out in the Gasser class, with Finnegan taking the early lead, but then Wysuph taking command after day two with an 8.57 to 8.59 average advantage. With both competitors limited to an 8.50 best time slip possibility, it’ll be interesting to see where this one goes as the week progresses.
Ben Anderson leads the Beetles category with a 10.91 average.
The Sick Street Race and Street Race 275 classes also limit competitors to an 8.50 time slip due to roll cage and safety limits, but that doesn’t cool off the hot competition. Two-time class champ Randy Seward is leading the Street Race 275 side with an 8.513 average, while Cody Poston’s 8.523 average is the best of the bunch on the Sick Street Race side.
DYO (Dial Your Own) and Pro DYO are all about awarding consistency, and we’re already seeing it after two days of racing action. Former Pro DYO champ Azeem Sheikh leads the class with a pair of 9.250 passes just .001 of-a-second apart, and DYO finds Taylor Ivey in front with 11.078 time slips from BOTH Gainesville Raceway and South Georgia Motorsports Park.
Today is a drive day, as competitors and Sick Ward enthusiasts will make their way from south Georgia to Bradenton, Florida and over 300 miles of street cruising. We’ll hit Cypress Inn Restaurant and then Lead Foot City for our checkpoints, and TBM Brakes has thrown out the welcome mat for an optional bonus stop!!
Tomorrow, Thursday February 5th, we will be back on track with Day Four action at Bradenton Motorsports Park. The FRDM+ team will once again provide all the on-track and in the pits details!
