Sick Certified Street Legends - the Drivers That Have Accomplished an 8-Second Average at a Drag and Drive Event!
The first drag and drive event, Hot Rod Drag Week, was held in 2005. Although nearly 50 competitors embarked on this historic journey, only 32 survived, with Carl Scott’s 8.58 average capturing the overall title.
The top three finishers of the first Hot Rod Drag Week, Carl Scott, Phil Cooper and Larry Larson, completed the event with 8-second averages.
Since then, over three hundred more competitors have completed a major drag and drive event with an 8-second average, and we’re celebrating them in our third segment of recognizing drag and drive performances.
Jeff Lutz Gears Up for Sick Week with Goals of 5-Second Runs and Completing the Week in What Could Be One of His Final Drag and Drive Events
After a decade plus of racing multiple venues, including the popular Street Outlaws and No Prep Kings series, Jeff Lutz took an opportunity to get back to another chapter of street cars in his life in 2024, participating in his first drag and drive event in seven years at Sick Week presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive.
In the two years since that return to first drag and drive, the iconic ’69 Camaro known as ‘Mad Max’ has lived up to its name, returning some solid runs, but also leaving Jeff frustrated at times.
As before, he finds himself busy with plenty of work and projects, but ready to start the season at Sick Week, with some goals to accomplish, in what could be his final ride.
Sick Certified Street Legends - the Drivers That Have Accomplished a 7-Second Average at a Drag and Drive Event!
At Sick The Magazine, we’re all about reporting the latest happenings, giving you detailed event coverage, and celebrating the people and their accomplishments in drag and drive.
But with drag and drive history crossing the two-decade mark since it officially started in 2005, we’re also about recognizing the performances that have gotten us to this point. Last week, we celebrated the twenty-two drivers that have achieved a 6-second average. Now we’re jumping into the 7-second range for averages.
Sick Bounties - $75,000 Up for Grabs on Setting Drag and Drive Records at Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive!
First, we released the the big news about Sick Wildcards on April 2nd; now it's time for the next huge announcement for Sick Week 2026 Presented By Gear Vendors Overdrive: Sick Bounties.
We’re going to put up some big money to incentivize racers to break records at Sick Week across a number of classes we think are going to tear it up next year!
Here’s the catch — the records have to be broken at our Sick Week event. If the record falls at another drag-and-drive event before Sick Week, the bounty evaporates (runs during testing or a 'traditional' race event are fine).
Devin Vanderhoof Sells Multi-Time Drag and Drive Winning Fox Mustang – Reveals New Drag and Drive Car Build – Are 5-Second Runs in Store for 2026?
After watching the convertible top shred to pieces on his well-known ’93 Ford Mustang convertible at Sick The Magazine’s recent Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks, Devin Vanderhoof returned to South Carolina with the car, and stripped of its convertible frame and gear, and being prepped for a hard top conversion.
Less than two weeks later, Devin had the multi-time drag and drive winning Mustang up for sale, fueling speculation of what might be next for Devin and driver Josh Davis. We twisted Devin’s arm to get the details about his new ride, and the plans for it.
Devin’s new ride is a Mustang, but a lighter and sleeker 2017 Shelby GT-350 model. Yes, this car is a legit Shelby GT-350 model, the first of twenty S550 chassis design Mustangs being built by J&E Chassisworks in Michigan, and Devin will start prepping it with goals of 5-second runs in 2026.
