Davis, Whitaker and Cataline Land Top Qualifier Spots, Stefanski Bounces Back from a Cracked Frame, and Several Personal Bests Recorded as Qualifying Wraps Up at Street Car Bragging Rights!

With three days of racing in the books, the fifth edition of the Street Car Braggin Rights (SCBR) is primed and ready for final eliminations today, with three days of qualifying completed.

Despite the warmer than normal temperatures, along with a near 130-degree track surface at times, some competitors have overcome setbacks, while others have posted personal bests, in fifteen classes being contested at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina.

Sick the Magazine is gearing up for a solid 2026, as we will host FIVE events, the next one being Speedfest, May 28th-20th. For more information and details on it, visit the Sick The Mag events page by CLICKING HERE!

Devin Vanderhoof and Josh Davis didn’t have the best start to the event, suffering transmission problems before they even made it to the first qualifying session on Wednesday. A couple long drive to grab parts and then to Virginia Speed Racing Transmission to get everything fixed up gave Davis and Vanderhoof one shot to qualify for the SCBR Shootout class.

The 2017 Shelby Mustang known as ‘Reddi Whip’ delivered the shot to take the top spot, thanks to a 6.53 at ‘just’ 206 mph pass, giving Vanderhoof and Davis a chance to battle for the SCBR Elite 8 top prize.

Fellow drag and drive runner Chuck Stefanski brought his zoomie-equipped Pontiac LeMans station wagon to Rockingham looking for some 6-second runs, but after the first pass on the track, knew something wasn’t right.

“Having a broken frame in the wagon was not something I had on my bingo card for this weekend,” said Stefanski. Luckily, Josh Simmons brought a welder to the party, and they got everything stitched back together, and Stefanski made an early shut-off 7.12 at 177 mph, qualifying seventh in the SCBR Shootout class.

We mentioned in our Thursday coverage that Frank Webb had a new personal best in his familiar ’78 Ford Fairmont in testing, carding a 7.11 at 193 mph. He has since invaded the 6-second range twice, a first for him, with the best run being a 6.83 at 208 mph, putting Webb in the sixth qualifying spot for the SCBR Shootout class.

Matt Moore put his Sick Week-winning camo Mustang through its paces for a 7.28 at 191 mph best run in qualifying, putt him in the second spot in the SCBR Shootout Wild class, which will start eliminations today.

Tyler Garlock is shifting gears in the SCBR Shootout class, and his unique Gen III HEMI-powered Fair Fairmont rang up a 7.99 at 176 mph, good enough to qualify Garlock in the top forty overall, and the SCBR Shootout Mild class.

Multi-time Sick Week presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive participant Mike Cataline qualified atop the SCBR Shootout Sport class with an 8.12 pass. He backed that up with an 8.17 in a round one victory to move on to final eliminations today.

Another Sick Week Florida-based Mustang runner, Houston McClain, survived an interesting round one battle in the SCBR Shootout Sport class. After spinning the tires a bit on the launch, a quick pedal job got McClain to the finish line first to earn a round two berth today.

Defending SCBR Shootout winner and Sick Summer presented by Motion Raceworks veteran Jeremy Ortiz took the first step to defending his title with a round one victory on Friday, moving his purple Nissan 240 to a round two opening today.

Multiple competitors are at work in the Stick Shift category, but the quickest of them all is Richard Guido. The ‘Canadian Chuck Norris’ rowed the gears in his ’65 Pontiac GTO to an 8.56 at 167 mph, the quickest of the drag and drive rides, qualifying number eight in the Stick Shift Pro class.

‍Alan Whitaker held onto the top qualifying spot in the 4200-pound minimum Heavyweight class. ‘Greenie’ the ’72 Monte Carlo clocked a best of 7.02 at 206 mph, looking like a solid bet to defend his class win from 2025.

Just two spots behind Whitaker, Jon Moore and his 4 x 4 Crown Victoria clocked a best of 8.23 at 170 mph to lock up a Heavyweight Outlaw spot, which will showcase the top eight qualifiers today.

The Street Car Index class combines a drive with checkpoints, and an index-based eliminations format. With two rounds of eliminations contested, Rajveer ‘Rovic’ Ahuja is one of the seventeen drivers remaining for round three. The Oldsmobile has been clicking off low 9-second runs after a few changes to the ignition system since Sick Week.
