Greener Pastures – Wheels Up Coyote Stock Rocks, Nitrous Sits at the Top of Sick Street Car Challenge, and ‘Lil Gangsta’s 5.30 No-Time Brings the Excitement On Day 1 at Sick On The Green in Kentucky!
Right as the drag and drive calendar starts to get busy in late May, we’re rolling out the red carpet at Beech Bend Raceway Park for day one of Sick On The Green!
Thursday testing brought the thrills and chills, and we’re not just talking about the roller coaster on property!
After a solid showing at Sick At The Rock, our new Sick Street Car Challenge class is back in Kentucky, with over 30 categories and a purse of more than $30K up for grabs. Turbos and superchargers captured a lot of the attention in Rockingham, North Carolina last month, but Lamar Swindoll showed that nitrous can still be a viable option.
The big block ’72 Chevrolet Camaro from Texas cranked out a solid 4.83 at 147 mph blast, with a 1.157 60 foot from the leaf spring-equipped ride. Lamar may be working on his new Nova for a summer debut, but he hasn’t taken his eyes off the Camaro’s performance.
Not far behind Swindoll in the Sick Street Car Challenge class is Joe New and his ’72 Oldsmobile Cutlass. A pair of low 5-second time slips have resulted from the turbocharged ride in testing, including a 5.07 at 142 mph best run.
Coyote Stock is a balance between using all the power from a sealed crate Coyote crate engine and not standing a car on its rear valance. Combined them together and it’s an entertaining class to watch, as driver drop the clutch pedal on 3000-pound stock appearing rides with a 10.5-width tire.
Former National Mustang Racers Association world champ Drew Lyons grabbed some serious air in testing, but also snagged the best time slip, a 9.74 at 136 mph in his jet black ’88 Mustang.
New to the Sick line-up in Kentucky is the popular ‘Lil Gangsta’s class. Based around a 5.30 index and no scoreboards, time slips or testing on elimination days, it’s garnered a lot of attention this year.
Jimmy Dale and Michael Poland are here with their World Series of Pro Mod winning Mustang known as ’50 Shades of Brown’ and Jimmy thinks the competition at Beech Bend Raceway Park is solid. “There’s some good competition here,” he said. “But Poland and I want that $10K that Tom Bailey is putting up.”
We’ve also got the Sick The Mag Giveaway vehicle, a ‘65 Pontiac GTO, getting some refinements and test laps here in Kentucky. Tom Bailey went wheels up on his first time shot.
With all four of our major Sick The Mag events sold out, Sick On The Green is one of your last chances to compete in a Sick The Mag drag and drive in 2025. Street machines and race cars will come together for an action-packed three days of racing and fun, with 9 classes paying a possible $60K in payouts!
We’ve got more on tap over the next 2 days - May 30th and 31st! To find out more about the Sick On The Green event, CLICK HERE!!
