Dragway Rush Marks the Fifth Canada-Based Drag and Drive of the 2025 Season – Giesbrecht, Corbett, Wiebe and Berisa Lead The Winners List!

The sheer magnitude of drag and drive continues to impress, and for 2025, Canada had five different events scheduled for the season. The fifth, and final one, would be Dragway Rush, an event with a unique two day, two track format.

Competitors would start on Friday, August 22nd at St. Thomas Dragway in St Thomas, Ontario, where racing would take place from 10 am until 2 pm. Competitors would pack up and hit the road to Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend, Ontario, where the Friday evening session of racing would take place from 6 to 10 pm.

Saturday, August 23rd brought competitors back for a second helping of racing at Grand Bend Motorplex, with on-track action from 10 am to 2 pm. Competitors then merely needed to set their sights on St. Thomas Dragway, earning the ‘completion’ checkmark as soon as they rolled through the gate.

With over a dozen different classes on tap, there was some spirited competition, and some specialty awards were also presented on the final day.

The overall Fastest Street Car, as well as the winner of the Gear Jammer class (H-pattern manual transmission) and Fastest Ford, was Benny Giesbrecht with a 9.626 average.

Just a mere one thousandth of-a-second behind Giesbrecht as the lowest average of the event was Dylan Corbett, with a 9.627 average. That was good enough to collect the Modified class title, as well as the ‘Fastest GM’ specialty award.

David Wiebe also walked away from the awards ceremony with a pair of awards, earning the Heavy Hitters class accolades over Peter Hiebert, and Wiebe also collected the ‘Fastest Mopar’ title.

Marcel Brosseau doubled down by getting the win in the Tiny Tire class, while also getting the Lone Wolf specialty award (the fastest average for a solo driver).

Glenn Legge claimed the win in the Front Wheel with a two tenths of-a-second quicker average over Clint McAdams. Legge also scored the ‘Fastest Asian’ car award.

Norm Tannahill captured the Naturally Aspirated class top spot, denying Chucky Skinner by just over a tenth of-a-second. Tannahill also received the ‘Fast Fogey’ award for the fastest average for age 65 or above.

The largest class at Dragway Rush was the Daily Driver class, where Darcy MacCoubrey put together the smallest spread between six time slips for the win by just 14 thousandths of-a-second over Steve Klein.

Tailgaters was the second most popular class at the event, and the quickest average came from Bill Peters for the win. Peter Klassen picked up the second spot, but also grabbed the ‘Party Animals’ specialty award, defined for the fastest average for crew of three or more.

The third largest class was the Hard Tire class, where Frank Giesbrecht put up the lowest average for the win over Todd Gillies.

The Leaf Spring class had a solid group of competitors, and Tyler Cornish finished at the top of the pack with a 10.18 average.

Charles Atkins scored a victory in the All Wheel class, posting a 10.72 average. Ryan Rodgers finished second, but he did collect the ‘Fastest European’ award.

The Modern Swap class found Wes Dyck posting the only 10-second average in the class with a 10.90 result, good enough to easily score the class win.

Fedon Berisa picked up the win in the Big Tire class over Al Lewis.

Small Tire would have Terry Byham scoring the victory over Rob Blancher.

Jake House handily won the Super Street class with a 10.41 average.

Michael Hudson picked up the victory in the Gasser class over Chris Hyland.

The final category was the Midnight on Marketplace one, a unique idea of vehicles that should not exceed $3000 in Canadian dollar value (excluding safety items). Nick Sawyer had both the quickest average, as well as the smallest spread, for the win over Rob Davidson.
