Sick The Magazine’s Ninth and Newest Giveaway Vehicle – This ’65 Pontiac GTO – Could Be Your Ticket to Summer Fun!
In just over two years, Sick The Magazine has given away eight different vehicles to new owners! From a rare 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Indy Pace Car, to a drag and drive-proven ’57 Chevrolet Gasser wagon, we’re encouraging Sick The Mag supporters to create their own adventures!
Now, we’re ready to announce our newest vehicle giveaway – This cool blue ’65 Pontiac GTO!
Sick the Mag is giving away this cool ‘65 Pontiac GTO! Go get your entries by purchasing ANY of our merchandise (every $1 spent gets you an entry), or subscribing to our print version of Sick the Magazine. For more info on our giveaway GTO, click HERE!
Failing in line with a couple of our previous giveaway rides, this GTO is a potent ride that combines street-legal features and race-ready hardware. “There are not many GTO models for sale,” said Tom Bailey of Sick The Mag. “So, when I saw this GTO online, it spoke to me. One lucky winner will get a cool ride to hopefully do some events, and maybe a drag and drive as well.
The second year for the GTO nameplate, this 1965 model features a mix of original styling cues and some serious upgrades for quicker drag strip blasts. Sporting a 383 cubic inch small block Chevrolet engine with aluminum cylinder heads, the engine is set back in the engine bay for better weight transfer.
Backed by a Turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission, the car has side exit exhaust, as well as a mini-tub to house the Weld Racing wheels with beadlocks and Mickey Thompson ET Street R 325/60/15 tires.
The GTO also has a stellar nitrous system, with the trunk featuring two separate fuel systems (one fuel cell for the engine-regular driving, and one for high octane fuel for the nitrous system). There are also two big bottles in the trunk to give you more nitrous runs before worrying about a refill!
The interior is a mix of original bits with modern upgrades. A full roll cage surrounds aftermarket bucket seats with updated harnesses, a full array of Auto Meter gauges in the stock gauge location, a Nitrous Oxide Systems controller, and a Hurst shifter to control the transmission functions.
The Pontiac GTO will be our second ride to be given away in 2025 and follows a wide variety of vehicle giveaways from Sick The Magazine, where being a subscriber, or even a small merchandise purchase, could get you a set of keys to a new ride.
For our first giveaway, we started with a Chevrolet Tahoe that served life as a cop car. The team spiced it up with an Edelbrock supercharger, upgraded the rolling stock to 20-inch wheels with Mickey Thompson wheels, and added a special Sick the Mag wrap. Rick from Salt Lake City, Utah, purchased a Sick embroidered hoodie and hat, and got the winning ticket.
We raised the bar (and the work level) on the second giveaway, a black and white 1957 Chevrolet Gasser wagon. Purchased as a bracket car that “shouldn’t see road miles” according to the previous owner, Tom and the Sick crew bought it and thrashed to make it streetable and reliable. It completed our 2023 Sick Summer event, and we brought it west for winner Jason DeFelice, who plans to keep it as delivered, as “all the paint, stickers and wear give it a personality.”
Tom located another unique ride for our third giveaway, a patina’d 1973 Chevrolet dually pick-up! With a big block engine, 700-R4 overdrive transmission, an air-ride suspension with 22-inch Alcoa wheels, it proved to be the perfect cruiser for Paul Maigler from Rhode Island, the contest winner. He’s brought it to Sick Week and Sick At The Rock in 2025, and said he might join us for another event this year as well!
You might not think a 1984 Pontiac Fiero would be such an important giveaway car, but it was for Mary from Chicago. She purchased spectator tickets online to our Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks event, and the Chicago resident would get our fourth giveaway car. For Mary, the Pontiac was a duplicate to a car she once passed on from her father as a possible first car, and she continues to enjoy it.
For the fifth giveaway, we scored a right-hand drive Holden Ute, and in traditional Aussie style, Tom Bailey verified it did awesome burnouts for our initial announcement. The Ute completed Sick Summer with the Sick crew, and ended up going to Jacob Sperling, who purchased merch from us at Sick Summer to get the winning entry. He plans to upgrade the car and bring it back to Sick Summer again.
Our sixth giveaway was the drag and drive-proven ‘Plan II’ Chevy II, that Jim Forbes built and competed in several drag-and-drives with, including our Death Week event in 2023. The 9-second supercharged Chevy would return west, as the lucky winner, Robert Jacobson, picked it up in Michigan, and drove it all the way home to California!
We kept the focus on drag and drive hot rods for our seventh giveaway, with a cool ’52 Nash Delivery announced at the start of our Sick 66 event in 2024. Subscriber Gregg Hamby, who also bought merch during the giveaway, picked up the ride at Sick Week this year, and plans to compete in the 2026 edition of Sick Week.
Tom dug into his own collection for our eighth giveaway, a rare ’69 Camaro Indy Pace Car. One of the 3,675 Camaro Indy Pace convertible models originally built, Sick Week competitor and subscriber Richard Maguire would become the lucky winner, and he plans to enjoy the ride for cruising and local car shows.
