Jeremy Ortiz Hopes Win Streak with His Turbocharged LS-Swapped 240 Will Continue at Sick On the Green and Sick Summer

There’s something to be said about striving to do your best, and coming up just a little shy of the top spot. It can make you dig deeper, work harder, and strive for the top spot a little bit more.

Most competitors would likely be happy with a pair of top three finishes at Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks, but Jeremy Ortiz plans to roll in prepared better than ever this year.

Since his first Sick Summer, Ortiz has captured multiple wins at various events and tracks. His most recent victories came in Extreme Radials at Muncie Dragway, then Ortiz followed it up at Street Car Braggin Rights (SCBR), where he scored the SCBR Shootout Wild class accolades.

Now, with his Nissan 240 sporting a single turbo LS swap seemingly on rails, Ortiz turns his focus to this week’s Sick On The Green event at Beech Bend Raceway Park. Then two weeks later, he will return to Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks in hopes of securing a Street Race 275 class victory.

Over 500 Competitors and 16 Classes Highlight 4th Annual Street Car Braggin Rights – Jim Braun, Keith Rhea and Aaron Miller Lead Winners List

Ask any promoter: the amount of work needed to host a successful event once is more than most would think. To continually raise the bar takes dedication, plus a solid team, race track and sponsors to make it attainable.

For the fourth time, Street Car Braggin Rights and its creator, Nate Prater, hosted a slew of street-legal rides in the Carolinas, with record attendance pushing racing action into the early morning hours.

The 2025 edition of Street Car Braggin Rights (SCBR) would mark a few firsts for the event. It would be the first time SCBR would be held at Rockingham Dragway in Richmond, North Carolina, as well as the first time roll racing was added to the event. It would also expand the event to three full days of racing, May 15th through the 17th, with an optional test day for drag racing on May 14th.

Over 500 entries pre-registered, and by the early morning hours on May 18th, champions were crowned in all 16 classes.

Proof Positive – Yvonnda Hutchins Turns a Tragedy into Triumph by Taking Up Drag Racing in Her Chevrolet Street Car

Hobbies can be a release from the stress of everyday life, something we enjoy with friends and family, and even, a way to cope and redirect your energy after dealing with bad times.

For Yvonnda Hutchins, her 2014 Chevrolet SS 4 door sedan has been a beacon of positivity on the drag strip, and a recent appearance at Sick At The Rock may expand that beacon a bit more.

For Yvonnda, her heartbreak left her needing an outlet to direct her focus and energy, and husband Alon provided the solution. “My husband told me I needed to find a hobby to keep my mind busy,” said Yvonnda. “He has drag raced for years, and we were at a race not long after my daughter’s passing, and my husband told me that I needed to try racing. I was apprehensive, but he was eventually able to convince me to try it, and I was hooked.”

As a project he built from the ground up starting in 2012, Mike Finnegan might not have foreshadowed his 1955 Chevrolet could be a race car, let alone a drag and drive ride.

The car that employs an old-school HEMI powerplant, thus the name ‘Blasphemi’ from the engine swap, got its first use to do a 2,600-mile road trip from California to North Carolina for the start of Hot Rod Power Tour.

But just a few years later, Finnegan made the choice to jump from pit reporter and drag and drive enthusiast to competitor, and for his 2025 Sick Week adventure, he brings us along for a 5-part breakdown on YouTube.
